The story

Diesel was founded in 1978 by Renzo Rosso, who set out to reinvent denim as a vehicle for self-expression rather than mere utility. The brand quickly became known for its irreverent, provocative advertising campaigns and its motto “For Successful Living,” a tongue-in-cheek nod to the absurdity of consumer culture. Diesel pioneered treatments and washes that transformed jeans into a canvas for experimentation, helping define the premium denim category in the 1990s. Under creative director Glenn Martens since 2020, the house has embraced a bolder, more directional identity, blending distressed denim, utilitarian silhouettes, and a distinctly maximalist sensibility that has resonated with a new generation. From the D-shaped logo to deconstructed jeans and corseted tailoring, Diesel continues to fuse craftsmanship with unapologetic, high-energy design.
